Frequently Asked Questions About the Construction of the New Building

Q. What will the building look like when it is complete?
A. The architectural style is Old World Mediterranean with some Mizner influence. The exterior finishes will be similar to the Shops at Sea Island and the new Coastal Bank on the Scranton Connector in Brunswick, with the addition of an old world flavor.

Q. Why is the building so tall?
A. In order to meet the FEMA requirement for the flood zone in which the property is located, an average of four feet of fill had to be added before the slab could be poured. The top of the roof of the new building is 33 feet, compared to our current building which is 30 feet tall.

Q. Why is the building so close to Frederica Road?
A. The building is actually set back over 100 feet from the road which far exceeds the county’s setback requirement. In addition, we located the building where it is and designed it the way it is in order to minimize the removal of any signature live oak trees.

Q. Why is it so big?
A. The building was designed to create optimal environments to accommodate the over 800 adults and 250 children and students that currently attend on Sunday mornings, and also to accommodate anticipated future growth.

Q. What is the roof going to look like?
A. There will be a combination of roofs. All porticos and porte cochere will have tile roofs. The other roofs will not be visible due to the parapet walls that will be trimmed with a row of terracotta tiles, very similar to our current building.

Q. What is happening with the ponds?
A. The ponds are being reshaped in order to accommodate the location of the building. In addition, they will be larger than the original ones. The ponds needed to be drained in order to accomplish this, but they will be refilled as soon as the reshaping and grooming is complete.

Q. What landscaping and lighting is planned?
A. The landscaping design will take full advantage of the existing live oak trees and the ponds with additional landscaping added around the building to enhance the appearance. Some of the landscaping will begin soon. Low intensity and low profile exterior lighting is also planned.

Q. How many people will the sanctuary accomodate?
A. It is designed to accommodate 800-900 people comfortably.

Q. When will the building be finished?
A. We are hopeful that we will be able to occupy the new building sometime in the Spring of 2008.
